TIRUPATHUR: A one-of-a-kind literature festival and book fair held in Tirupathur from April 2-9. No less than 48 writers will participate in panel discussions and 60 book stalls will be set up with over 1 lakh of books. The event is jointly organized by the district administration and the arts and literature association of Tirupathur.
Admission will be free and the event will take place at the Sacred Arts College from 3-7 p.m. “This is not an ordinary book fair, it’s a Lit Fest with interactive panel discussions and other competitions. It is inspired by Jaipur Lit Fest,” district collector Amar Khushwaha told TNIE.
“Discussions in two groups will be held every day and eminent writers will participate. Tamil literature will be the center of attention,” he added. During Lit Fest’s 14 panel discussions, various topics will be discussed, including women’s empowerment, the environment, human rights, history, art and culture. Prominent writers such as Perumal Murugan, Sukhirtharani, Salma, Manushiyaputhran and Samas participate.
A 20-member central committee and a 50-member committee decided on topics and guests. “It is solely focused on Tamil literature. A panel of three members will deliver the introductory speech on a topic for the first 20 minutes and later questions from the audience will be answered. The best questions will be rewarded,” said Dr. K Parhiban, councilor for the party.
In order to encourage students from rural areas to participate in the event, registration fees have been waived, he added. Organizers said major Tamil publishing houses have agreed to set up stalls at Lit Fest and the collection is expected to be large and diverse.
Meanwhile, the collector visited the scene and inquired about the preparations on Monday.
