A lifelong fan, Alberta publisher of the customizable children’s book My Hockey Dream, which features Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers defeating the Calgary Flames (in an impossible Stanley Cup final), expects that the book unfolds as the battle for Alberta begins on Wednesday.

“It’s a story that puts the likeness of your child chosen from a diverse range of avatars, they put their name in the story, your personal dedication, and then a likeness of Connor McDavid as the child plays in the finale Stanley Cup with the Oilers star,” said Holly Preston, writer and president of Fan for Life.

“And in history, they beat the Calgary Flames,” she added with a laugh.

The Oilers will have a shot at beating the Flames in the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs as they square off for a Round 2 series starting Wednesday night in Calgary.

Preston said the child avatar options range from different hairstyles to a range of skin colors and there is also an option to wear a hijab or patka.

“We hope to find your child in this book as you progress through the process of creating the personalized book that’s right for your family,” Preston said.

She stated that My Hockey Dream has been available since late 2020 and is NHL and NHLPA licensed. The book is also available for fans of other teams such as the Flames which features Matthew Tkachuk.

Preston said she has been working on books since 2010 and started working with the NHL in 2012.

“We absolutely expect to have really good sales during the playoffs, of course targeting fans like Oilers fans and Flames fans who are so strong and so passionate,” Preston said.

She said it’s important for them to bring a child closer to their hockey hero and for them to come away with “good sporting values.”

Preston’s son, Stephen, was an advisor on the book and oversaw the development of the software for the custom book. Preston added that everyone working on the book is from Alberta, but the book is printed in Ontario.

“It’s just lovely to see, even just the kids, and what the fans have to say, what the kids have to say about how excited they are to see themselves in a book with their hockey hero.” , she said.
