BookTastic children’s book festival launches star-studded weekend lineup

Calling all bookworms in Bedford and beyond, BookTastic Children’s Book Festival announced the lineup for its Ledger Weekend at the Place Theater on July 9 and 10.

The two-day family extravaganza will see some of the biggest names in young fiction visit Bedford to read their bestsellers and give audiences a taste of their latest releases.

Book lovers of all ages will have the chance to enjoy live Q&A sessions, creative writing workshops and even singing sessions with leading authors and illustrators – a dream weekend for young bookworms.

The BookTastic Festival kicks off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 9 with a visit from Jamie Littler, author of the number one hit series – Frostheart.

Jamie will share excerpts from the final book in the trilogy – Frostheart – Rise of the World Eater and fans of the series will be able to learn more about the fate of adventurer Ash and the denizens of the Snow Sea.

Award-winning author and founder of Bright Little Labs, Sophie Deen will then take the stage at noon for a live reading of the latest book in her Agent Asha series – Agent Asha: Operation Cyber ​​Chop.

Combining science fiction, computer coding, and math in a fast-paced spy adventure, Sophie’s books champion diversity, women in STEM careers, and support national curriculum computer science programs.

Rounding out Saturday’s event, author and illustrator Laura Ellen Anderson will introduce young readers to her bestselling graphic novel series – Evil Emperor Penguin – which is exactly as crazy as it sounds.

This collection of hilarious comics from popular series author Amelia Fang is suitable for readers aged six and up – telling the story of an evil penguin genius and his sidekick and minion, and their attempt to take over the world .

Young book lovers visiting the festival on Sunday July 10 will enjoy an exclusive visit from Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet, creators of the best-selling Supertato picture book series.

Fans of the adventurous potato will be treated to a laugh and sing-along event with readings and fun activities for the whole family, especially our littlest readers. Sue and Paul will also give the public a taste of their exciting new series – I Spy Island.

Next up will be Laura Dockrill, author and illustrator of the outrageous preschool picture book Punk Rocker Poodletelling the story of a dog with an attitude that loves nothing more than to stomp and dab.

The BookTastic festival will close with the Poetry Picnic – an interactive take-your-own-cookies poetry workshop where budding young writers can learn to create their own poetic masterpiece – complete with snacks, music and games to inspire and entertain you.
