Endgame’s Greatest Moment With Chickens And It’s Glorious

Marvel Studios achieved an indelible moment in cinema with the release of Avengers: Endgame, and its tense final battle between the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Legions of Thanos. By now, the world has shared the videos and/or the real-life experience of watching Marvel fans come together in passionate cheer, gather strength now, and lead the charge with the long-awaited statement: “Avengers! .”

Yes, it’s a moment that will live forever in cinemas and in the hearts of Marvel fans everywhere – but is it powerful enough to deliver its message using chickens instead of human actors? It turns out that the answer to this question is: ABSOLUTELY.

This video of @theSnyderKnight went viral with Marvel fans and sparked all sorts of funny responses to the video – like a different fan giving a glimpse of what kind of enemy the Chicken Avengers would gather to fight:

Avengers: Endgame will continue to be an iconic piece of Marvel history – one that has not only affected people, but all of comic book and movie culture. Captain America’s iconic Endgame rallying cry lives and music videos everywhere; High-end merchandise (figures) have been created to capture and commemorate the scene, and even Marvel Comics has officially adapted one of Cap’s other iconic lines from the film to the comics.

Even with all this validation, Avengers: Endgame the writers and directors were never quite sure they had pulled off the team’s epic rallying cry in the right way. Make Cap say the “Avengers!” the loud part and the quietly “Assemble” part was definitely a change from how comics traditionally do it:

“I felt like it would be more interesting,” director Joe Russo told writer Stephen McFeely on the End of Game comment track. “Unfortunately, him catching the hammer for the second time created a lot of energy in the theatre, and I don’t know if people heard it that first weekend. But that’s why you can go back and see it again.”

Well, Russo wasn’t wrong about everything he said there: all the viral videos from the ‘Avengers Assemble’ moment show how often the mobs doesn’t hear the final payline, instead of all their roars and cheers that preceded it. The sequence of Cap thinking he’s the last man standing against Thanos, only to open portals and send all of his dead friends and co-workers back to the battlefield was an assortment of character cameos. The cheers started with Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther being the first through the breach, and didn’t end until the charge was in motion! This Doctor Strange and Wong joke (“You wanted more?”) has often been eaten away by the frenzy of geeky good vibes.

Avengers: Endgame did it so well that the chicken version still inspires the heart. Marvel really killed it – and has a lot to do with Avengers: Secret Wars. You can look End of Game on Disney+.
