Background Book #26 was once held in high esteem by comic book collectors. Showing a reporter at the Detroit Triple Fan Fair convention in 1967 his copies of Single series #20 (with reprints of Foster’s Tarzan strip) Comics in four colors #10 (Alexander Ramond working on Flash Gordon) and Background Book #26, one attendee explained, “I think most collectors would agree that these three issues are the most sought after due to the artwork, rarity and condition. took years to get them.” When the Overstreet Price Guide launched in 1970, Background Book #26 was consistently among the 20 most valuable comics listed. In fact, in this very first guide, it was the same price as the likes of Comic Flash #1 and Detective comics #1.
