Kevin Smith is getting into the Dark Horse business with a line of creator-specific comics that he will write. The line will be called Kevin Smith’s Secret Stash Press, named after his New Jersey comic book store.
Smith will launch its range this fall with Masquerade, an eight-issue series about a budding vigilante. It will be followed by the ongoing anthology Quick stopsset in his View Askewniverse movies which will include movie characters like Clerks, Mallrats and Jay and Bob strike back.
“I’ve been a fan of Kevin’s movies for years. The fact is, we have a lot in common. We’ve both worked in our own comic book stores, worked in the motion picture industry, but most of all, we have a passionate love for the medium of comics,” said Dark Horse President and Founder Mike Richardson. , in a press release. “It makes sense that we’re finally teaming up, and I’m extremely proud to announce his exciting new line of comics and graphic novels here at Dark Horse. Kevin has a brilliant and creative mind, and I can’t wait to see this that he has in store for all of us.
“2022 marks the 25th anniversary of my comic book store, Jay & Silent Bob’s Secret Stash. And after a quarter century of selling comics, the Secret Stash will CREATE our own comics! Smith said in a statement.
Smith has built a career not just as a filmmaker, but also as a comic book enthusiast who has written comics for Marvel, DC, and other publishers. He broke out as an independent director with Clerks in 1994 and has a third Clerks movie expected this year from Lionsgate. He is also an executive producer of Netflix animation Masters of the Universe: Revelation.
