Leonardo DiCaprio stars in brutal sinking film

If there’s one thing Leonardo DiCaprio loves, it’s an excuse to grow a coarse, weird beard and go somewhere terrible and inhospitable. Luckily for him, he was announced to star in a new film titled The bet, directed by frequent collaborator and legendary filmmaker Martin Scorsese. The film is based on an incident in 1741 in which a British warship was wrecked along the coast of Chile, setting off a chain of events involving starvation, mutiny, enslavement, murder, mutiny and, worst of all, a legal battle in the UK. legal system. The bet will be Leonardo Dicaprio and Martin Scorsese’s seventh film collaboration.

By variety, Leonardo Dicaprio will star in The bet, but it is unclear what role he will play. The captain of the historic HMS Wager was named David Cheap, and it seems likely that he will play the lead role. After the sinking of the Wager, a contingent of the crew mutinied against Captain Cheap (probably the occasion for scenes of very bearded and dirty men attacking a very born and dirty Leonardo Dicaprio), who left with a certain number of faithful men on a smaller boat. Essentially, two different groups of survivors eventually returned to England, where they both accused each other of various crimes, including murder.

The film is adapted from the upcoming non-fiction book The Bet: A Story of Shipwreck, Mutiny and Murder by journalist David Grann. The Wager Incident has inspired many books and stories and is one of the best known shipwrecks in history. David Grann also wrote The Moonflower Slayers, which Leonardo Dicaprio and Martin Scorsese also adapted; this film is in post-production and is scheduled for release in May 2023. It is based on a series of murders in 1920s Oklahoma that was investigated by a young J. Edgar Hoover (who Leonardo Dicaprio previously portrayed in the 2011 Clint Eastwood film J. Edgar). The Moonflower Slayers will also co-star frequent Martin Scorsese collaborator Robert De Niro, making it their tenth film together. Looks like Leonardo Dicaprio is going to have to pick up the pace a bit.

Prior to The Moonflower Slayers and The betLeonardo Dicaprio and Martin Scorsese collaborated on New York Gangs, the aviator, The dead, shutter islandand the wolf of Wall Street. The latter film is the most commercially successful of Martin Scorsese’s films, while working with a respected filmmaker like Scorsese gave Leonardo Dicaprio a boost of critical respectability in his post-Titanic years. Clearly, it’s been a successful partnership for the two, so it won’t be at all surprising if they continue to announce more and more historic films together.

More recently, Leonardo DiCaprio appeared with Jennifer Lawrence in the Netflix satire Don’t look up, from director Adam McKay. It looks like DiCaprio is ready to go back to acting in difficult environments around rude men, so all is well with the world.
