Mark Hamill teams up with Jack in the Box for a free promo comic

Star Wars actor Mark Hamill is teaming up with his former employer, Jack in the Box, for a free limited-edition comic book.

Mark Hamill – known for his roles as Luke Skywalker in the star wars franchise and the Joker in Batman: The Animated Series — has teamed up with his former employer, Jack in the Box, for a limited edition comic book fans can get their hands on for free.

Before making a name for himself as an actor, Hamill worked at a Jack in the Box restaurant in Hollywood, California. However, the future Jedi Master was eventually fired for posing as a clown while working at the drive-thru window. It’s all water under the bridge now, it seems, with Hamill returning to the drive-thru for a recent Jack in the Box ad campaign. In addition to the ads, said campaign includes a limited-edition comic featuring Hamill alongside Jack Box, the fast food chain’s mascot.

Digital downloads of the comic are also available. Created by Eric Stiles and Chad Goodnoe, The return of Mark Hamill is illustrated by Luke Duo Art and Jamie Coe and lettered by Joshua Reed.

“The untold and mostly true story of Mark Hamill’s early life at the wheel of the Jack in the Box and his bittersweet departure,” reads an official synopsis for the comic. “It’s a story of fate, friendship and redemption, decades of preparation. Oh, and it’s totally free.”

I’m one with the fries and the fries are with me

Hamill opened up about his time working in the fast food industry during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden in June 2019. “I worked right down the street here at Jack in the Box, and I was in the back all the time, making shakes and watching the grill,” the actor said. “And I’ve always aspired to work the window…the drive-thru…The one chance I’ve had, it never occurred to me not to be in the character of the clown – the clown Jack in the Box.”

According to Hamill, his manager “didn’t find it very funny”. “He told me to go home and never come back,” the actor recalls. “Yeah, I got fired for playing the role.” However, Hamill had the last laugh – literally. “I’ll show you,” he said, as if talking to his manager. “One day I’ll be the Joker, and then you’ll regret it.”
