Leesburg, Virginia (November 22, 2022) – The Thomas Balch Library will host author Mary Pat Ferron Canes in a discussion of Dark Queen of Donegal on Sunday, December 4 from 2 p.m.

Dark Queen of Donegal, historical fiction, tells the gripping story of Ineen Dubh, Celtic warrior queen, and her son Red Hugh, legendary prince of Donegal. It captures the spirit of 16th century England as Elizabeth sought to assert her power over Ireland and Scotland. The book will be available for purchase during the event.

Mary Pat Ferron Canes holds a graduate degree in anthropology from George Washington University, where she focused her research on Irish heritage and Gaelic men and women, and an undergraduate degree from St. Catherine’s University. While an adjunct faculty member at the Rochester Institute of Technology, Cane continued his research and writing on Irish history. She has written a series of booklets, poems and articles, which have appeared in numerous journals and is a member of the National League of American Pen Women. Raised in the Midwest, she has lived most of her life in Virginia.
