Spider-Man, the famous Marvel comic book character also known as Peter Parker, is Ohio’s favorite superhero, according to a new study.
The bipartisan education platform Wise Voter released the results earlier this month, after analyzing print and digital sales of Marvel and DC comic books during the pandemic, according to the website. The comic book market grew by more than 60% between 2020 and 2021, which includes both digital and print sales. Marvel recorded a 31.7% market share in 2021, while DC had 27.1%.
Along with Ohio, 24 other states have Spider-Man as their No. 1 pick, including neighboring states Indiana, Illinois, and Kentucky. The second most popular superhero was Batman, winning 10 states. This was followed by Superman, which won four states.
Other Marvel and DC superheroes that appeared on the chart less frequently include Captain Marvel, who is a favorite in Rhode Island and Delaware, and Black Panther in Oregon.
In addition to Spider-Man, Ohio’s other superheroes included Batman, Iron Man, Captain America, and Aquaman.
The latest Spider-Man movie, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” returned to the box office over Labor Day weekend due for a re-release with 11 minutes of additional footage. The film, which was originally released in December, collected $5.3 million, bringing its North American total to $812.3 million.
The film is playing in several theaters in Greater Columbus.
