While it’s certainly not everyone’s cup of tea, Tarantino received a moderately positive response for his Once Upon a Time in Hollywood novel, so it makes sense to see him try his hand at a second book. Plus, he’s proud of his film theory and his training in criticism — all he’s ever had is an opinion, really, but hey, that’s the same as most critics — along with his love movies that put him in the position of being a lifelong student of the medium. No matter what claims he makes in this book, it will be interesting to see his line of thinking and to some degree how well he can get away with it before his final film.
According to HarperCollins, the book’s synopsis reads:
“Besides being one of the most celebrated contemporary filmmakers, Quentin Tarantino is probably the most happily infectious film buff in the world. For years he has bragged in interviews about his eventual turn to writing books about movies. Now, with “Cinema Speculation,” the time has come, and the results are everything his avid fans — and all movie buffs — could have hoped for. Organized around key American films of the 1970s, which he has all first seen as a young cinephile at the time, this book is as intellectually rigorous and insightful as it is exuberant and entertaining Part film review, part film theory, part reporting feat, part marvelous story personal, all written in a singular voice instantly recognizable as QT and with the rare perspective on cinema possible only from one of the greatest practitioners of the art form of all time.”
“Cinema Speculation” is set to hit stores on October 25, 2022.
