- The region’s largest festival for children and young people will be themed “Creating Creativity” to ignite creative passions and nurture young talent
Sharjah: The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA), has announced that the 13th Sharjah Children’s Reading Festival (SCRF) will be a 12-day event, starting May 11. Themed ‘Creating Creativity’, the region’s largest festival of its kind will run until May 22 at the Expo Center Sharjah.
A host of international writers and experts will lead diverse and inclusive activities, taking the younger generation on a journey to unleash their creativity, hone their skills and expand their knowledge.
Highlighting the importance of the SCRF in the cultural calendar of the UAE, HE Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Chairman of the SBA, said: “The SCRF offers young generations a unique platform to pursue their passions, explore curiosities and acquire new knowledge. The international event reflects the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and the guidance of his wife, Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for family. (SCFA), and focuses on nurturing creative and enlightened generations capable of leading their nation’s development journey and achieving its goals.
He added, “Through the SCRF, we are keen to provide unlimited space for children to learn, discover their talents, sharpen their skills and discover their abilities, because cultural and development projects cannot succeed without investing in the younger generations. Today, nations measure their value and status not by their wealth but by the ambitions and potential of their youth.
“In addition to expanding the creative horizons of children and young people, the SCRF supports Sharjah’s efforts to advance the publishing sector regionally and internationally, especially children’s literature. The festival brings together publishers and illustrators of children’s literature and YA to exchange knowledge and expertise, and at the same time, highlight the advanced infrastructure of the emirate and the wealth of opportunities and services available for expanding global publishing markets,” concluded the SBA Chairman.
Commenting on the popularity of the event, Khoula Al Mujaini, General Coordinator of SCRF, said, “Since the inaugural edition in 2010, the event has provided a space for children and young people to fulfill their passions and aspirations and , at the same time, provide invaluable literary, scientific and artistic knowledge. The children also forge new friendships, buy new books and set their goals during the festival.
She added, “This year, the festival designed the theme ‘Creating Creativity’ to provide a space for children to build their unique worlds without any limitations. The younger generations have immense energies that can help them rediscover themselves and build their realities through learning and innovation. SCRF provides the platform to achieve this by ensuring that a diversity of publishers participate in the festival and that a multitude of creative and educational workshops and exhibitions are offered to entertain them.
The SCRF was launched under the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Al Qasimi, and the patronage of His Highness Sheikha Jawaher bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, to instill and preserve a culture of reading in the emirate.
