More than ten years after its first release, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim will finally be playable in co-op thanks to a new mod. Apart from Fallout 76, virtually every other game released by Bethesda Game Studios over the years has been a single-player RPG. However, that hasn’t stopped fans from wondering how games like Skyrim, Fallout 4, or many more would get away with it when played with a friend. Now, thanks to the arrival of this mod, these questions will be resolved.
After being in the works for an extended period, this co-op mod for Skyrim should finally launch later this week on July 8th. The mod is specifically called “Skyrim Together Reborn” and will be released on Nexus. Instructions on how to download the mod can be found here to find out when it will go live in the next few days.
Perhaps the most surprising thing about Skyrim getting cooperation with this mod is that the mod itself will not be available through a beta. Originally, the team behind Skyrim Together Reborn (which is a new version of an older mod) planned to release the mod as a beta. Instead, it will be a full 1.0 release, although the developers have always stressed that errors are bound to occur.
“The mod won’t be perfect. It will occasionally crash, some quests will crash, there will be bugs. It’s not fixable. It’s just the reality of making a multiplayer mod instead of having a massive studio like Bethesda is making a multiplayer game,” the development team behind Skyrim Together Reborn said on Reddit. “Still, it’s playable, it’s fun, and it’s way better than the old Skyrim Together mod, which was Reborn’s goal.”
In the future, the Skyrim Together Reborn team also wants to bring co-op features to Fallout 4 which will support between two and eight players. Release plans for this mod have yet to be announced, but with Skyrim now out of the way, maybe we’ll know more about the future of this Fallout 4 co-op experience soon enough.
What do you think of being able to play Skyrim with a friend thanks to this new cooperative mod? Are you going to look to download this and try it out for yourself? Let me know in the comments or hit me up on social media at @MooreMan12.
