A RETIRED truck driver became a children’s author – because of a serious illness he suffered.

Steve Carr of Wellingtonis releasing her second book by popular demand in time for Christmas.

The Adventures of the Bean People II is the story of a town where different types of beans live and what they do.

The moral of the stories is “teamwork is dream work”, which Steve says strikes a chord with kids and parents alike.

Both books feature four stories, but the second has improved images and graphics and more pages.

Steve, who first had the idea for his stories 35 years ago, said: “I just had the bug of writing

“I had just come out of a major operation and was taking strong sedatives.

“My wife, Gail, Gail served me beans on toast and the stories just started popping into my head.

“I dreamed of a town full of different beans and the adventures they have.”

Steve first read the stories to his own children when they were young and has since used his grandchildren as guinea pigs.

His children and Gail pushed him to have the books published.

“Several people in Wellington bought the first book and asked me when I was going to write another because their kids loved it,” said Steve, who lives at The Paddocks and works locally for RH Fibreboard Containers.

“I spend a few hours a day writing, rubbing and starting over to get it perfect.

“It can take me up to three months to complete each story.”

The Adventures of the Bean People II is showing at book fairs in New York and Guadalajara, Mexico, and will premiere in London in April.

It is available online at AuthorHouse and will soon be available in bookstores and on Amazon.

And expect a third book in the series as Steve is already busy writing about other Bean People adventures.
