Earlier this year, LRMonline brought you an exclusive feature from Tim Nardelli focusing on the comic book creation process. Night terror. The feature goes into the entire start-to-finish process that it took to create an original comic book.
Probably the most overlooked process in creating a comic is the first step, the script. Although popular in film and television, comic book scripts are just as important as the visuals of a comic book. When Tim started the creative process Night terror he had to sit down and take his vision and put it into script form. This allowed Tim to plan the story and provide inspiration for the visuals.
Once the script is complete, Tim enters the storyboard process. Very similar to laying out the visuals of a movie, comic book storyboards give the team an idea of what the comic book pages will look like. About Night terror, Tim wanted to have a dark and creepy presence for his story. Whereas most early comics were geared towards young children. More recently created comics have targeted a more mature audience, especially in the horror genre. Tim’s vision for Night terror is a darker theme and he wanted to tap into the fear of his readers.
The notion of Night terror follows the main character, Matt Daio, as he comes face to face with his inner demon The Demonolith. Once the script and storyboard were finalized, Tim was able to put the comic book pages together. In functionality comic book art Tim demonstrates the process of integrating his concept into a visual story.
