The Woman’s Club of Arlington hosted its 10th annual author event on Sunday, March 27, 2022, and it generated proceeds that will be donated to local charities, donated as college scholarships, and donated to Hudson CASA (Special Advocates appointed by the Court).
The event featured Fiona Davis, New York Times best-selling historical fiction writer and author of six historical fiction novels set in iconic New York buildings, including her latest publication The Magnolia Palace. Davis’s novels have been chosen as “One Book, One Community” readings and her articles have appeared in publications like The Wall Street Journal and O Oprah’s Magazine. Her books have been translated into a dozen languages and she is based in New York.
Davis discussed her own story and how she develops her novels. Both of her parents were English and she traveled across England and Scotland to visit castles as a child. This initiated a love of historic buildings. She first came to New York as an actress, but fell in love with writing after earning a master’s degree at Columbia Journalism School. His approach, once intrigued by a historic New York building, is to research its history and ask for a behind-the-scenes tour. His novels both include two timelines: one in the past and one in the more recent present. They all include a mystery and several twists. The main characters are always women. She has indicated that she likes “grumpy women”.
