Why Batwoman and Legends of Tomorrow Were Canceled Reportedly Revealed

The past few weeks have been pretty shocking when it comes to TV, with networks canceling a surprising number of high-profile or fledgling shows. Among them were several shows on The CW, including Arrowverse mainstays. batman and DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, a move that sparked a series of surprise reactions and social media campaigns from fans. A new report from The Hollywood Reporter sheds light on The CW’s cancellation of Batwoman, Legends, and a number of shows — and cites a single reason why the two long-running superhero shows got the axe. According to their reports, while CW President Mark Pedowitz wanted to renew both shows for additional seasons, Warner Bros. Discovery reportedly removed the shows because they “no longer wanted to pay the leases on studio space, which expired on May 1.”

Given previous reports regarding Warner Bros. Discovery, which recently merged after a $43 billion acquisition, the idea that the company wants to cut some expenses is perhaps not so surprising. Reports have indicated that Warner Bros. Discovery is also reducing scripted programming on its cable channels TNT and TBS, and that DC wonder twins The HBO Max movie may have been canceled along the way.

Still, the report might not make headlines batman and LegendsCancellations sting less, especially since both shows ended their respective seasons earlier this spring to somewhat ambiguous endings, before it was known whether or not they were going to be renewed. LegendsThe Season 7 finale ended with the team being arrested amid the arrival of Booster Gold (Donald Faison), while the final moments of batman Season 3 teased a grotesque villain that drew comparisons to the Monster Men, Solomon Grundy, or Doctor Dreath.

“The cliffhanger isn’t the CW’s fault. It’s mine,” Legends Showrunner Keto Shimizu wrote on Twitter shortly after the cancellation announcement. “I played chicken with the pickup and lost. I hope the story can continue in another form. TV movie? Comic book? Listen on the radio?”

In addition, The CW decided to remove the other DC series Noemieas well as In the Dark, Dynasty, Charmed, Legacyand Roswell, New Mexico.
